What is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?
Everyone is familiar with what a standby generator is, but an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is different in that it provides near-instantaneous protection from power failure and interruptions by supplying energy stored in super capacity batteries for a few critical minutes.
UPS is not intended for prolonged use but for just a few minutes until a standby generator is switched on. This is a critical measure that gives facility managers a few precious minutes to start up standby power and time to shut down any critical equipment that needs protecting - typically for medical equipment, computers, data centers - anywhere a sudden loss of power can cause catastrophic data loss, injuries, fire, or fatalities.
